The Chairman of the 7-member ad hoc committee investigating the attempt to oust the Inspector General of Police, Samuel Atta Akyea, disclosed.

Mr. Atta Akyea further stated that all three senior police officers who have already testified before the committee – COP Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi – are likely to return with their lawyers on Tuesday, September 12.

“Also, the most prominent person whose name has been bandied about, the IGP himself should also come with his lawyers.”

“Some serious allegations have been made in public, but the substance of the allegations has not been made in public. That is to say, the evidential support for those allegations is what we are going to unearth, so which piece of evidence that we’ll give to the public that will not hurt national security, we’ll exercise that discretion,” he told Joy News.

In related news, Dr. Akuffo Dampare has stated that he will recuse himself from the disciplinary proceedings involving the three police officers featured in the released tape.

The IGP has taken this measure, according to reliable reports inside the Ghana Police Service, to ensure impartiality and transparency in the continuing investigations into the situation.

This comes on in the wake of the recent suspension of the interdiction of officers caught on the leaked footage, as well as negotiations with Bugri Naabu regarding how to remove the IGP from his position.

Dr. Dampare hopes to ensure that all parties receive a fair and unbiased investigation into their conduct by taking a step back from decisions affecting the accused officers.
