Occupy Julorbi House: Police prevent protesters from demonstrating to Jubilee House

Hundreds of protesters who had assembled at the 37 lorry station with the intention of marching to the Jubilee House have been stopped.

Protesters came across a police barricade near the 37 Military Hospital. The cops had been kitted with SWAT gear and armoured trucks. In reaction, the protesters sat down on the road, effectively taking up the area while they awaited a solution to be reached.

On Thursday, September 21, the police used measures to disperse the “Occupy Julorbi House” protest. Several demonstrators were arrested and held at several police stations throughout Accra. However, all 49 detainees were released on the same day.

The three-day “Occupy Julorbi House” activity, organised by the pressure group “Democracy Hub,” aims to press the President and members of the Economic Management Team to confront economic mismanagement and corruption in the administration.

Additionally, it provides a forum for people to express their disagreement with other government policies and efforts, such as the proposed military action in Niger.
