Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has excluded himself from any disciplinary proceedings involving the three senior police officers involved in a leaked tape plotting his removal with Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to Citinewsroom.com, Dampare has decided not involve himself in the disciplinary process and would leave the fate of COP Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi to the Police Management Board (POMAB) and the Police Council.
The Police Service interdicted three senior officials on Thursday, September 7, but the decision was later reversed.
The police stated in a statement dated September 7 that the decision to hold up the interdiction of the three police officers was made to ensure that it did not interfere with the ongoing investigation by Parliament.
The statement further stated that after the parliamentary probe the Police Service would begin disciplinary actions regarding the officers.
“Following the interdiction of COP/Mr George Alex Mensah, Supt/Mr Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Supt/Mr George Lysander Asare in connection with the leaked audio tape, the Police Administration would commence disciplinary proceedings into their conduct upon completion of the ongoing probe by Parliament.”
“In order not to prejudice the ongoing probe, the Police administration has suspended their interdiction.”
According to sources the IGP who chairs POMAB and is also part of the Police Council chaired by the Vice President, will not be part of any meeting that will decide the fate of the three officers.
